Trust Fall (AKA When God Shows Up Big)
Summer camp was always a fun time. Nasty food. Wilderness. New friends. And games that were either great or awful (not much middle ground).
One thing you probably did at summer camp, or some other team building activity, is the Trust Fall. To refresh your brain muscle, the Trust Fall for us is when everyone partners up in a line. One partner stands in front of the other. Then the person in front is to fall back, completely trusting their partner to catch him.
Trust the Fall.
For me, the past 6 months have been (and continue to be) one big Trust Fall with God. He’s led me to a place where I have no choice but to trust Him. To not trust Him would be like expecting yourself to catch yourself while in a full-on Trust Fall. It won’t work. You will just end up hurting yourself.
He’s catching me every day.
In the past 2 weeks, God has brought me multiple freelance opportunities. Web sites, Illustrator maps, Videos, etc. I’ve gotten to do a little of everything as of late. It’s been fun. (SIDENOTE: While I’m VERY appreciative of the freelance opportunities (and the bills they pay), nothing competes with KNOWING your income for the upcoming year, so I still have my eyes open.)
God shows up BIG.
Friday I was having lunch with a friend, sharing with her about God providing, etc. when I receive a call from an unknown number. Now in my book the live person eating lunch with me ALWAYS wins over a phone call. And I didn’t recognize the number, so it definitely went to voicemail.
I didn’t recognize the person who called me, but they didn’t sound like a telemarketer so I called them back. And am I glad I did!
The lady who answered my call was the Secretary of the Commonwealth of Virginia. (i.e. works with the Governor). An adoption initiative put in place by the Governor was having a celebration the following day, and they figured last minute that someone should film some family stories at it. And through a God miracle, the Governor’s office got my name. ONLY God!
So within 24 hours I go from my friend buying me Mexican lunch to me filming positive stories with the Governor and the Secretary of the Commonwealth celebrating adoption. INCREDIBLE!
And who doesn’t like icing on the cake? The adoption event ended 30 minutes before my friend’s wedding I was going to, so I didn’t even have to wear a suit two separate times (I hate wearing suits). Only God’s timing!
This week God has already brought two more freelance projects to me, and continues to give me the resources and talent to do types of work I’ve never attempted before.
Back to that Trust Fall.
I was a heavier kid, so I never fully trusted the person behind me in the Trust Fall. My trust is something that numerous people have shattered throughout my life, so I’m very cautious to give a lot of it to people sometimes (although God continues to stretch me in that). However, God is the one person I know I can always fully trust. He might let me fall some, but only so when He catches me I’m that much more thankful.
